Sun Pharmaceuticals Ltd. to join hands with the Little Hearts project to aid children with heart disease

As a CSR initiative for the company, Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. held a meeting at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children for their initiative to donate a percentage of their Rosuvastatin tablet sales to the Little Hearts project to assist in the building of the Cardiac Complex in aid of children with heart diseases in July, 2019.

 

Sun Pharma further donated a generous cheque of LKR 3.5 million for the Cardiac Complex which is being built due to the dire need for cardiac facilities in the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children. This generous donation will enable more than 350 lives to be saved.

 

The agreement was discussed with, Dr. Ajith Danthanarayana, director of Lady Ridgeway Hospital attending as well as Little Hearts project director Dr. Duminda Samarasinghe, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist, and Dr. Dimuthu Weerasuriya, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist. Present at the meeting from the Sun Pharma delegation were Mr. Prashanth Sagare (Vice President), Mr Jyothi Chandran (General Manager/International Marketing), Mr Delanjan Wellikala (Country Manager), Mr Sreekumar Ramachandran (Country Manager), Mr Prathaban (MD, Emerchemie NB Ltd) and Dr Janka Weerathunga (Medical director, Emerchemie NB Ltd).

 

100% of the funds from the donation as well as the CSR initiative will be used in the construction process of the Cardiac Complex. By actively engaging in funding programs, the Little Hearts project is aiming to reach its financial target of LKR 2 billion.

 

The aim of the Little Hearts project is to build a 12-storey Cardiac and Critical Complex attached to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital as a state-of-the-art facility to treat children with heart disease and critical illness. The building is to feature cardiac operating theaters, 40 ICU beds, over 100 medical and neonatal intensive care beds, areas for advanced cardiac investigations and staff training facilities to provide optimum care for child patients.
